My dearest Galoshes,
I've been AWOL, and this is my mea culpa to you. The past year has been full – both personally and professionally. My mother passed away while I was caring for her through cancer. It's been tough, but it's also been natural and transformative.
Through this period of intensity and change, my work has evolved in beautiful and unexpected ways, particularly around the concept of Land Alchemy. This practice has grown both instinctively and theoretically, embracing the ineffable, the spiritual, and yes – even the magical aspects of our relationship with place.
Today, I want to share something practical born from this deeper understanding: the Climate-Proof Your Home initiative.
It started three summers ago, watching aerial footage of houses in Pakistan during a 51°C heatwave. The stark reality hit me: our homes weren't built for what's coming. Not just in Pakistan – everywhere. Europe, US, Asia, South America... our existing houses are ill-equipped for today's climate, let alone tomorrow's.
As an architect, I realized we're often fixated on new builds and their carbon footprints. But what about the millions of existing homes? What about yours?
This led to creating a solution that empowers you to adapt your home, starting with what you have. There's no one-size-fits-all answer – it's house by house, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood. Just like Land Alchemy, it's about understanding context and working with what's there.
Here's your invitation: Join me for a free Room Rescue webinar on November 18th. It's interactive, short (30 minutes), and practical. We'll explore quick, actionable solutions to prepare one room in your house for the coming winter.
No overwhelm. No freezing in uncertainty. Just one tiny, powerful step you can take today.
More will come about the deeper, more poetic aspects of Land Alchemy. But for now, let's start with something tangible.
Will you join me?
With renewed commitment to sharing this journey,
Jo
P.S. The webinar is free, interactive, and limited to 30 minutes. Perfect for busy homeowners who want practical solutions without the overwhelm.
I'm so happy you returned - I missed you on this platform...
