My dearest Galosh,
I'm in a state, I can't really work, I don't know what exactly I'm supposed to do for the next hour or two. And so I draw, meditative drawing, unpurposeful on purpose. The purpose of that being to release the things that lie beneath the thought. Release them and as they go, see them wash away like water in a stream. I tap into this different channel of understanding, of being and feeling. A process of letting the energies of the universe wash through you and come out on the other side of you, embodied. Now the form of the embodiment doesn't matter. It's the process of mirroring yourself in the universe that matters.
And then once it is embodied, it washes in turn over someone else, over you. And maybe finds its way to your different channel of understanding, of being, and tells it something. It tells it something untellable with words. And your different channel of understanding understands.
And then if we're lucky it tells you something about yourself as much as it tells you something about me. Because art is not mere craft. Art is a mirror to the soul, showing you something about yourself that you hadn't seen before, which now clicks and all of a sudden makes sense.
Can we use art to make sense of our much needed recalibration with nature? Can we use art to show each and every soul that we are a part of this beautiful system and not separate from it, above it, conquerors?
Can we sing the Story of Interbeing?
Can architecture, as art embodied into walls and roofs and living rooms, do the same?
I hope so.
So next time you're feeling stuck my dearest Galosh, try to bring pen to paper and draw unpurposeful on purpose. Tap into a different channel than the cerebral let the energies of the universe wash through you. Even if it sounds cringe.
Love, Jo
PS Moved into a new place. Can you spot the double rainbow that greeted us on our first day?
